San Diego Sky Tours is a veteran-run commercial tour company motivated by a passion for aviation. All of San Diego Sky Tours sightseeing flights and missions are approved by the Federal Aviation Administration.
San Diego Sky Tours began in 2009 as part of a college business plan competition and a dream to establish a locally based leader in aerial adventures. James “Cap” Kapenas (USMC) and his then partner Ryan “P Diddy” Poortinga (USAF) came to Montgomery-Gibbs Field with a single engine Cessna and a vision. Through the creative insight of Erich “Fox” Moulder (USN) several biplanes joined the fleet making it possible to not only offer leisurely tours along the coast, but adrenaline pumping aerobatic and air-combat tours!
The saying is, “if you love what you do, you won’t work a day in your life”. When we are flying, we never feel like we are working. We love flying airplanes! You can get to know us better by reading our individual biographies.
Our pilot team embodies all aspects of aviation. Most of us have worked in multiple aviation fields such as military, corporate, charter, airlines, test and flight instruction. We are seasoned professional aviators.
We are all FAA-certified flight instructors. We carry sightseeing insurance and we all adhere to a strict training regimen and an FAA approved drug-testing policy.
